SCAMPER Table

Original Idea that SCAMPER was applied on: A device that has containers for extraction of citrus skin fragrance using ethanol solvent (solvent extraction method) and drying process of the skin to be done with the help of a fan (mechanical dryer).

Conclusion

Ideas that are feasible according to the feasibility tables are:

  1. Using distillation method to extract the fragrance

  2. Adding rubber seals on the lid to make container airtight

  3. Eliminating the mechanical drying and sun drying the citrus skin peel

After completing SCAMPER I found it to be very useful to generate small changes which might improve various parts of the existing idea and the feasibility analysis allowed us to confirm if the ideas were indeed an improvement over the original.

During the idea screening process, we were stuck on numerous occasions as we could not decide if a certain change is a substitution or modification. Since we had to minimally use 3 letters in our SCAMPER table, we had a hard time completing it.

The hardest part when doing the COWS matrix was the allocation of weightage as not all variables are equal but by how much? we could not find the answer to such questions hence, making it hard to decide on the COWS weightage.
